NEW: More GP Appointments released
We are working with NHS England to offer extra GP appointments over the busy winter period. This is because we know that there are times you want to be able to see a GP at short notice. We also know that over winter lots of people have seasonal illnesses which require more than a pharmacy but don’t need emergency treatment.
The extra appointments are bookable on the day by ringing reception on the usual number or by booking online.
If you haven’t yet signed up for GP Online Services simply call into the practice with two forms of photo ID and proof of address. We can sign you up there and then. GP Online Services makes it easy to book appointments online, request repeat prescriptions and view some of your medical records. Find out more about this on www.nhs.uk/GPonlineservices
If you are not able to attend an appointment you have booked, for whatever reason, please let us know. We can then offer that appointment to someone else that needs it.
**IMPORTANT NOTICE** Please note, from the 12th January we will be making some changes to the way we offer GP appointments to improve access. From this date patients requiring the attention of a GP should call us between 8.30am and 10am. A trained medical receptionist will ask you for some information about your need and will ask the doctor to telephone you. Please be assured that the doctor calling will offer you an appointment to be seen if this is required.
About the PPG
The purpose of the PPG is to make stronger the relationship between patients and their practices, which is critical to the provision of modern, high-quality general practice. The Patient Participation Group meet at least four times a year with working groups often meeting additionally. The PPG actively support our health promotion open evenings and are present during CQC inspections.

Who we are
The purpose of the PPG is to make stronger the relationship between patients and their practices, which is critical to the provision of modern, high-quality general practice.
Activities the group will strive to undertake include:
Provide constructive feedback on patients’ needs, concerns and interests. Feed back information about the community, in general, which may affect healthcare.
Assist the practice by arranging voluntary groups/support within the community.
Give patients a voice in the organisation, delivery and accessibility of services.
To assist the practice with carrying out and analysing patient surveys as required
Improve communication between the practice and the community, including those in hard to reach groups
Health Education: encourage and support activities within the practice
Promote preventative medicine
Fund-raising for equipment or other facilities to enhance the patient experience
Liaise with other PPGs in the area and attend CCG engagement events
Meetings will be held at least quarterly
The group’s membership shall consist of no more than 12 individuals plus the Partners and Practice Manager.
Registered patients and the carers of registered patients will form the pool eligible for membership. In addition, the Partners and Practice Manager shall also be members of the PPG. To maintain membership each individual member, with the exception of the GP Partners, must attend at least one meeting per year.
The officers shall be elected by the group annually in March. Each member shall have the right to vote, on a one member one vote basis.
The terms of reference shall be reviewed annually in March.

Please see extract below from the South Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group Press release explaining how patients in Harleston benefitted from a training provided by Kate and Irene, two nurses providing free training to carers, at our recent open evening.
'How patients in Harleston have benefitted from the training
Like many GP Practices, Harleston Medical Practice works closely with local care homes and always looks for new ways to improve patient care. So when they heard about Kate and Irene’s training they invited them to join one of their regular patient-focused open evenings.
Known carers were contacted by the practice and welcomed along to the training, which focused on avoiding falls and pressure ulcers, the importance of proper hydration and good communication with the health service in an emergency.
15 carers, plus members of the Patient Participation Group attended and, says the practice, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive – carers really appreciated the top tips to help keep their loved ones safe and well.'
